What is the use of a lesson?

When I read the lines in the below two posts, I felt that I just have to share it with the world. Hence, I have quoted them. I have written enough about love, but it seems its never enough. Emotions may bog us down, but they also teach us an unforgettable lesson each time, and for that lesson, for that experience, we need those emotions. But my question is, what is the use of a lesson if we are ultimately left only with that lesson, that feeling, that experience? What is the use if we do not have any more love left within us, just a bitter lesson learnt?

  1. If at the end, one feels bitter, then it means the lesson is not learnt yet!

  2. Feeling bitter or happy, what is the ultimate use of a lesson if you are just left with the lesson and not the person who was responsible for our learning it? What is its use if we are left alone?

  3. Repeat (boring alert)
Feeling bitter = lesson not learnt
Feeling happy = then why worry about other person
Being alone = excuse me, there are more than one billion people in India alone.

  4. You are right. There are one billion people alone in India. As Girish Karnad said in his play 'Yayati', Your points accepted.

Caterpillar or butterfly?

'Caught in a strange land in a net with other butterflies, I'm a caterpillar yet undecided to remain a caterpillar and perish or turn into a beautiful butterfly and live a life full of joy.' Readers don't laugh. But I came up with this one night recently when I was travelling in a train. I tossed and turned, not being able to sleep, upset over unexplainable things and frustrated over events not in my control. Then it occurred to me that our life and its usefulness depends on our decisions -- whether to remain a crawling caterpillar whose existence otherwise is either ignored by all and sundry or who is cursed for just being there and thrown out with a stick, or to develop wings of life and metamorphose into a beautiful butterfly whom everybody adores for its beauty and colour, for its flitting liveliness, for its service to the flower's pollination... I thought that I should be a butterfly, of service to others, but then again I thought, anyway, who really cares?

A listener

I have always been a listener. And we can listen only when we are silent. Since childhood, silence was my way of life. It is the only way one can understand the psyche of others.  I also listened to myself. It encouraged me to think. And when I began thinking, this world began to reveal itself. And when I started understanding people, I also realised the only way forward is to again remain silent. Silence in either way keeps me calm, peaceful. I feel like a detached onlooker.

It's the journey...

An old saying among the explorers of the Americas says, "It is not life that matters, but the journey." But who among us enjoys the journey? We are busy deciding when, in a future date, we should be happy, that we have pushed to the back of our mind the truth that "now" we should be happy. Now, or that moment never comes. Life is just a collection of moments, which includes this moment. If we think we'll be happy after shifting to 'our' new house or driving 'our' new car or walking on the streets of Paris or along the Thames bridge, it's just a never-ending story.
